Visceral Manipulation

Visceral Manipulation - Gentle hands-on therapy - Novato ChiropracticVisceral Manipulation (VM) is a gentle hands-on therapy that works with the body’s visceral system (the heart, liver, intestines and other internal organs) to locate and alleviate abnormal areas of tension and restriction in your organs and connective tissue.

Visceral Manipulation employs specifically placed gentle manual forces to encourage the normal mobility, tone and motion of the viscera and their connective tissues. I use the rhythmic motions of the visceral system and Applied Kinesiology muscle testing to access where manipulation is necessary.

I also use the Brimhall Percussor to remove restrictions in the fascia and organs. These gentle manipulations can potentially improve the functioning of individual organs, the systems the organs function within, and the structural integrity of the entire body.

At optimal health there is good movement of the organs (viscera) and structures of the body (muscles, membranes, fascia and bones) and everything remains stable despite the body’s endless varieties of motion. But when one organ can’t move in harmony with its surrounding viscera due to adhesions or displacement, it works against all the body’s organs and structures.

This disharmony creates fixed, abnormal points of tension that the body is forced to move around. In addition the viscera are connected to and wrapped in fascia. And the fascia that encases the viscera are contiguously connected the fascia that covers the muscles, brain and spinal cord. The fascia can become tightened or constricted along with the organs. The constriction and chronic irritation, in turn, paves the way for disease and dysfunction.

Normally we do not feel what our organs are doing. But they are constantly moving.  For example when we eat food our intestines move the food from our down until the remains are eliminated. During this time the pancreas excretes digestive enzymes and the liver and gallbladder releases bile to digest fat.  We don’t feel any of this. If the organs and ducts become constricted, then these normal processes do not occur properly.  Any organ can become constricted.

I am one the few Novato chiropractors that perform this technique.
